Enhancing the Ewelme Brook

Enhancing the Ewelme Brook

With river restoration training days, guided walks and a new advice leaflets for homeowners, there’s plenty going on along the Ewelme Brook.

We have been working closely with Benson and Ewelme Parish Councils, along with local community groups, on plans to improve habitat of the Ewelme Brook.

River restoration training days are planned for later this month. We’ll be working with local volunteers to restore two stretches of the brook – just upstream of Benson and also adjacent to the allotments on St Helen’s Avenue. Volunteers who attend these days will have the skills and knowledge needed to restore further sections of the brook in the future (subject to necessary permissions). These sites will also provide ‘exmplar’ sites for local residents who would like to improve the brook in their own gardens. Training dates will take place on Saturday 25th February and Wednesday 8th March. Please get in touch for details (places are limited and priority will be given to residents of Ewelme and Benson villages).

The New Ewelme Brook Management Leaflet

Much of the brook runs through gardens. To support homeowners of riverside properties we have also launched a new advice leaflet.

If you’d like to find out more about plans for the Ewelme Brook, please come along and speak to us at the next Ewelme Watercress Beds open morning on Sunday 5th March. With a guided walk, children’s activities and a chance to see some on the smaller creatures who live in the brook up close.

This project has been possible thanks to a grant from the Green Recovery Challenge Fund
